Heard Today

This morning: "I like spiders."

This evening: "Magenta sun, Daddy?" She was asking me to draw a sun for her. In magenta. Later she asked for black.

This is one interesting little girl.

Rock, Paper... Cow

In Ella's Deluxe version of Rock/Paper/Scissors, Cow eats Bunny (clearly a win).

And here is a bonus picture for those of you who have been waiting patiently for a new post: Ella auditions for Broadway.

Both Ella and her mother had a brief encounter with a mild stomach bug. I think the most heartbreaking part was Ella's bewilderment at being nauseous--she has had very few illnesses. That and the sniffling "it's ooookaaaay" like she's trying to convince herself that everything's going to be fine (normally we're the ones saying that when she's upset). However, it was all pretty much over by noon, so I suppose she was right.

One Orange Up On Top!

This is Ella's homage to Ten Apples Up On Top by Theo LeSieg (a/k/a Ted Geisel, a/k/a Dr. Seuss).

It's been one of her favorite books for a long time--in fact, I think her first 'book quote' is from Ten Apples: "come on! come on!" It's also one of the few children's books I know that has a decent chase scene, a rip-roaring climax, and a fun resolution. I finally realized that she knew the plot when she started rushing me past the slow part at the beginning, to get down to the real action.

p.s. - Overheard at bathtime recently: "That opacus is really big!"

p.p.s. - Opacus is Ella's word for Octopus.

Dinosaur Pals

Ella performs dinosaur dental maintenance. "Open wide... I'm pretty sure this won't hurt."

On an unrelated note, Ella is now counting from 1 to ten without skipping 3 through 6.

I got me the goin' to bed blues...

Apparently it's not easy being a toddler, especially when you have a mean mistreater for a dad who makes you go to bed when you don't particularly want to.

(p.s. pay no attention to the fact that she's blowing into the wrong side of the harmonica.)
