Saying Hello

Tonight as I was getting Ella's pajamas on she started tooting. When I teasingly asked her what that strange sound was she replied:
My poop is saying "hello."

Art, for Pete's Sake

"Oh, hi there! I was just sitting down to do a few watercolors before I have a bottle and take a nap. Would you care to join me?"

We've discovered that Ella loves to paint. Today's painting session with Mommy lasted a good hour and a half. When given the gentle instruction that soon it would be time to sleep, she replied, "but it's time to paint, Momma!"

There ain't nothin' like losing yourself in a painting.

Exciting Tales From The Zoo

Tissues... Rise... Rise, I Say!

So the other morning, Ella was eating her breakfast with her hands over her ears. It took me a few minutes to realize she was doing that so she could hear the crunch of her Cheerios better.

p.s. - Overheard: "What was that funny sound? It was my little dinosaur making noise."

Breaking the News

We've started talking to Ella about her upcoming role as Big Sister. She seems to be taking the news in stride.

Right now she likes to lift my shirt, stick her finger in my belly button and say "Waa-waa!" So she seems to be understanding.

But then she also tells Grandma Charlotte "I have a baby in my tummy! I'm pregnant!" So maybe she's not quite getting it.

(I'm slightly embarrassed by this picture. But in my defense, those sweat pants are really comfortable!)

Ella's Ark

Always an innovator, Ella has made use of napkins as a building material to make a stylish yet functional shelter for her animals.

p.s. - it may be a fluke, but Ella counted the fingers on my hand, and actually stopped when she got to five! For the longest time, Ella has been able to count to twenty (give or take), but it was pretty much just a song to her. Now it seems like real counting is starting to take place.
